The Topeka Emergency Services Showcase began in 2007 as a dream of a 6 year old girl named Kasey. Her dream was born from a desire to teach other children what she has been taught by her friends - our city’s first responders. One night, as she was watching the news with her parents, the station aired coverage of a family suffering in the aftermath of a fire which claimed the life of their child. As Kasey began to understand the situation, she grew very upset. Her greatest fear was that the child died because he hid from the fire fighters, because Kasey knows how frightening a firefighter can appear when fully geared. As she and her parents discussed the situation, Kasey asked why someone could not teach others and help them understand why firefighters (and other first responders) are not to be feared. Thus the Emergency Services Showcase was born!
